The Battleship

When I was in college, I drove a 1987 LTD Crown Victoria. Being full of Texas pride, I affectionately named her "The Battleship Texas." A few weeks ago, we went to see the real Battleship Texas! The boys said over and over in very high-pitched squeals "This is the most glorious day ever, ever, ever, ever!!!!!"Our family on the top deck looking out at the San Jacinto Monument. At this point, the boys were nervous...maybe slightly terrified, of going over the edge into the water. But they trusted us enough to get one family photo
They LOVED running on deck! They sat on the anchor chain and could not believe how big it was! And they jumped on every grate. They could not wait to go up and down stairs. They wanted to go to the crow's nest, but we did not make it that high. The stairs were made for stable men, not 4 year old boys!
On the second deck, we got to see several rooms. This was the Wardroom. It was set for a formal dinner. There was a TON of sterling silver serving pieces and beautiful Navy seal china.

The highlight was shooting the GIGANTIC guns on deck! At first Rylan was nervous to sit by himself, but before long, he was making shooting sounds and yelling at the "yucky Germans" (World War 2 era).
Back below deck, we were all intrigued by their beds! Three beds hung in a row. It was a little claustrophobic! They had shoes, helmets and uniforms folded on the bunks. The kids LOVED it! We also got to see the kitchen, bakery, doctor's office and post office.
Here's Jacob at the gunner. They figured out how to do teamwork to go up and down and side to side. Their sound effects were priceless!!!
Jason and the big guns!

It really was a glorious day! Tune in tomorrow for our afternoon! :)
