Our morning began fairly early, by getting to the Old Courthouse Museum at 8:30. In all the famous pictures from the 1863 siege, this is the HUGE building on top of the big hill. The building was beautiful!!! So southern and lovely, both inside and outside.
Not only did this Museum have tons of Civil War guns, cannons, ammunition, uniforms, battle plans, scale models and more, but it also had other period artifacts. Rylan really was drawn to the diaramas.
This was a model of the USS Cairo that we saw yesterday!

There were two rooms devoted to Jefferson Davis. His plantation was just outside of Vicksburg, so he had roots in MS> This is the tie he wore at his inaguration as CSA President. We all thought it was really cool!
And this is his chair!
Of course...these little piggies loving the old wood floors!
We got to the Museum so early because we booked a MS River Cruise for 10:30. We rode the Sweet Olive for about an hour up and back down the Mississippi River.
The boys were so excited to be like Abe Lincoln and be in a boat on the MS River. They wished they could have paddled with an oar!
The water was really pretty! At one point we got to go out on the (tiny) front end and some water splashed on our legs. That was a highlight!!!
Rylan was looking for alligators!
At the back of the boat, there was a table with different articles and artifacts. Jacob loved the baby alligator head the most. He loved putting his fingers where the brain should have been!

After our cruise, we ate lunch at the MOST delightful cafe in VBurg! Rylan ate a whole ham and cheese quiche. The waitress/owner could not believe that a 5 year old ordered quiche - and then she could not believe that he ate it all! So she gave us FREE chocolate pecan pie! All was delicious!!! Jason, Jacob and I all shared 2 blue plate specials - hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. I would drive 8 hours to eat that lunch again!!!
Then we jumped on the Natchez Trace to drive to TN... but then we discovered that the speed limit is 55, so we got back onto I-55 about 45 minutes later and went 70 the rest of the way.
Notice the bat/pen in Rylan's hand? Our check engine light came on this morning and would not go off after a few stops, so before we left VBUrg, we made a 1.5 hour stop at the Honda dealer. They gave the boys these super cool spy pens that look like a bat but are really a pen. Turns out we bought bad gas in Natchez and we were on our merry way!
Once we (finally) got to Scott and Beth's, we got all 4 kids to sleep and then we did what we do best - talk and laugh. Scott had a bunch of YouTube videos lined up to show Jason...like A.Dodson. We laughed until our sides hurt! It is soooo good to be with old friends! More to come!

Makes me want to go see the Civil War exhibit here in town.
