Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Like last year, we had a fun morning with our friends to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday! Dr. Seuss is one of the boys favorite author/illustrators and the boys LOVED all the tie-ins to the books.

When the kids arrived, they made necklaces. I punched bug scalloped circles. Then the kids added Seuss stickers to the paper circles and strung them with Fruit Loops. Each necklace was an original masterpiece! Jacob hard at work...
Rylan working (and eating) his necklace. Each kid got a felt hat (from the TarJay dollar spot!!!), but they were a little big on kid-sized heads and lasted about 3 minutes. But they were still cute!
After they finished their necklace, the kids made a Yertle the Tutrtle using a paper bowl. They colored the bowl in a wide variety of colors and the mommas stapled the bottom to the bowl to make the shell. Then we saved the turtles in a basket for the game a little while later.
We read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. After reading it, we played two fish games. First we magnet fished for red fish, blue fish, and friends. This was super fun! Rylan only wanted to catch a green one.

Then we tossed the fish into the fish bowl. This was a challenge for most of the kids, but was still fun. Jacob crossed the line just a tad!
Rylan had pretty good aim!
Then we read The Sneetches - which is Jacob's current favorite Seuss story. Jason created the Star-Belly Machine! I was very impressed with Jason's creativity. Jason's folks gave the boys this tent/tunnel for Christmas. To make it the Star-Belly Machine, we taped green stars on the teepee flap for the kids to grab and added an "In" and "Out" sign. The kids entered the dome tent, crawled through the tunnel and exited the teepee. On the way out they either grabbed a star, or put the star back.
Jacob was BESIDE HIMSELF with excitement!!! He could hardly stand the anticipation. At breakfast we told him Daddy made a Star Belly Machine and he BOUNCED all over until it was finally time to crawl through. I think he did the crawl no less that a million times!!!

Then we came back inside and listened to Yertle the Turtle. After the book, we used the turtles we made earlier to make a turtle stack and placed a plush Yertle on top. This was fun and the kids loved knocking down the stack with Mack's burp. (so much for manners!)

And finally the time we had all been waiting for...green eggs! We watched the Green Eggs and Ham movie and then started cooking! Each kids cracked their egg...
Added TOO MUCH green food coloring and whisked the eggs!

Then Chef Daddy cooked the eggs to perfection.
While Chef Daddy cooked, the kids colored drawings on placemats. I traced two scenes from the book and made copies. Now I have to glue on photos and laminate them for each kid.
Ta-Da! Time to eat!!!
