Rite of Passage

All families have some right of passage.  One of Jason's favorite movie trilogies is Star Wars.  He had been itching to share them with the boys and they were eager to watch it!  We decided that the original trilogy were the only ones appropriate at this time.  Here's number 1...
When the boys were 2 they went to Annelise's Star Wars BD party (which was AWESOME-LY fun and they still play with the pool noodle light sabers!!!) .  Ever since then we told them they had to be 6 to watch the movies.  So in August they turned 6 and we just got around to watching them!

I decided to play up the rite of passage and make a whole Star Wars weekend complete with Star Wars food and treats!  Jason had the flu, and it was rainy, so the timing was perfect!  For dinner on Friday we had Han Burgers, light saber sweet potato fries and Yoda Sodas.  Can you tell Rylan is SLIGHTLY excited?!?!?!

Then we watched the original movie!!!

Saturday was also the Packers play-off game, so after gearing up to cheer for the Packers, we had a double header of episodes 5 and 6 complete with popcorn and more Yoda sodas!

Overall the boys LOVED LOVED LOVED the movies!!!  They already knew Darth was Luke's dad, so that surprise was not a surprise.  They were a little worried when Luke almost went dark in Return of the Jedi, but were SO excited when he did not go dark and that Darth killed the evil Emperor.  The Emperor was a little creepy and scary, but no bad dreams.

Now all they do is make up Star Wars adventures.  On our recent drives to DFW they talked for at least 4 solid hours about the adventures of Luke, Yoda, Darth Vader, ObiWan, Leia and crew.  And, Jason is thrilled to share this love with our boys!

I love it! We just let Layton watch a new hope and he is already begging for another night. We had a Star Wars themed night as well. Have fun at Disney!
