The last two weeks have been a blur for our family. Just after New Year's, Jason's grandpa was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. He was responding well to the draining procedures, but then he stopped responding so well. So on January 10, he was put in hospice care. We left that morning to go to DFW for one more visit with Jason's favorite grandpa. We spent many hours at the hospital that weekend and I must brag that the boys were SO well behaved! They moved Papa to a nursing home on Monday and he seemed to be getting better. Then Thursday the 17th, we got the dreaded phone call. Even though we were all SO sad for ourselves, we rejoice that he is finally at rest and in a much better place.
Papa was such a gentle man. He welcomed me to the family the first time we met. He always said that the first grade teachers worked the hardest in the whole school, so of course, I loved him!!! He loved the Mavericks and helped to begin Jason's love of the team. When we were newlyweds we took Papa to his first Mavs game. He said that he did not know a girl would yell as loud and get as involved in the game as I did! hahaha Papa was a good man - he taught things to Jason that helped to form him into the man he is today. He was such a humble man and was always worried about everyone else and not himself.
